Our Origins
Otto Gunther (Von Turzein Baden), locally known as "The Baron", set up a coffee plantation, the wet mill and the first drying yards in 1898. The lands passed through many hands, and each brought in innovations to make the farm more modern and efficient, and to ensure that the quality remains consistently high. It is now owned by Edward “Teddy” Esteve, a first-generation coffee grower whose adoption of disease- and pest-resistant cultivars led to San Antonio’s new harvest being quadruple that of earlier cultivars3.
Who we are
San Antonio has 36 productive hectares of robusta and 301 hectares of Arabica coffee. Ensuring an increase in productivity while ensuring that each harvest brings enthusiasts the high quality coffees that they have come to expect when cupping a San Antonio Chicharras coffee. Since 2015, the farm has focussed on the global demand for quality coffees and specialty coffee processes such as natural, honey, extended and anaerobic fermentations. The mineral-rich soil imparts the farm's coffees with complex profiles with delightful notes of acidity3.
